Violife Feta Review

With veganism becoming more and more popular, the demand for alternative healthy and cruelty-free food options is through the roof. While plant-based variations of meat (such as vegan burgers), fish, milk, etc are great, things like vegan-friendly cheese always seemed to lack in quality. This has meant that many of us for a long time now have been longing for some great new alternatives to foot the bill. Fortunately, we have found just the product that has passed all of our rigorous testings that we know you will absolutely love – Violife’s Vegan Greek White Block Feta Cheese. We created this review in order to help you learn all about it and why you need to add this delicious feta-substitute to your weekly grocery shop. Let’s get into it!

It also carries the Vegan, Kosher Pareve, and Non-GMO certifications and verifications, allowing you to add this to your meals with total peace of mind.

How to classify the best Vegan Feta Cheese

We have done a lot of research and decided upon a number of different requirements that we feel all the best vegan feta and cheese substitutes all consisted of in some shape or form. After careful consideration, we broke these down into a list of four crucial qualities, all of which the Violife’s Greek White Block carries – securing its place as a top vegan feta/cheese alternative. These qualifying qualities consist of the following:

  • Ingredients
  • Nutrition
  • Taste
  • Consistency

Ingredients

The ingredients in any vegan product should be carefully looked at before you make a purchase. This is because, in order to make a vegan-based product taste as similar as possible to the traditional non-vegan versions, manufacturers will sometimes utilize unhealthy and questionable ingredients. With that said, as mentioned earlier, the Violife Greek White Block contains just 8 ingredients; Water, Coconut Oil, Potato Starch, Sea Salt, Glucono Delta-Lactone, Vegan Natural Flavorings, Olive Extract, and Vitamin B12, all of which are relatively healthy. The majority of these ingredients you will likely recognize, though maybe not the Glucono Delta-Lactone (GDL). GDL is a naturally occurring ingredient, typically found in its natural form, Gluconic acid, in things like fruit juices, honey, jelly, wine, etc. So, therefore, you can add this feta-alternative to your meals without any concern about it being unhealthy.

Nutrition

No products found.

As well as the ingredients, you want to ensure that anything you will be regularly consuming is healthy and nutritional. While many people think Vegan products are really healthy this, unfortunately, is not always the case. Many vegan products available today tend to have a lot of salt/sodium, sugar, and fat and therefore quite a large amount of calories per serving. The Violife Greek White Block, on the other hand, is just 92 calories, 8.7g of fat, 3.3g of carbohydrates and just 0.5g of salt per 30g serving and contains no GMOs, making this the perfect healthy and low-calorie treat to combine with your favorite meals.

Taste

Taste is certainly important for any decent vegan product to have. While it is common that most vegan alternatives aren’t the best tasting foods when compared to their non-vegan counterparts, the best vegan products are often very tasty. The great thing about the Violife Greek White Block is that it tastes amazing while also only consisting of so few ingredients. Instead of that chalky flavor, we come to expect from vegan products, it has that tangy and distinct flavor that we all know and love from traditional feta cheese. While so many customers love the taste of this great feta substitute, a few have mentioned that it is not as salty as the typical non-vegan dairy version, with it containing only 0.5g of salt per serving. One way to combat this is to simply brine it in salty water, this will give it an extra kick to its already delicious flavor. With that said, only a select few customers seemed to have this opinion while the much larger majority love the taste without having to change or add anything to it.

Consistency

Traditionally Feta cheese is a very crumbly, soft cheese, and when you eat it, it kind of melts in the mouth. With Feta cheese and any cheese really, the consistency alongside its taste and smell are the qualities that make a cheese unique. As with most vegan-based variations of products, the manufacturers aim to make the product as close to the non-vegan version as possible and we usually expect them to fall short to some small degree. With that said, the Violife Greek White Block has a deliciously soft and creamy consistency. One thing to mention is that many customers say that it does not crumble and is more like goat cheese, in terms of consistency, though is still solid enough to slice. This did not take away from the fact that they also confirmed that it was the best tasting vegan-friendly feta cheese they had ever tasted. Due to the nature of vegan-based cheeses and how they are made, it isn’t always possible to have the same exact consistency as regular dairy cheese anyway.

Our Verdict

Violife’s Greek White Block matches all the expectations we have for a top vegan product. There aren’t many good vegan-friendly fetas out there – or cheeses in general for that matter, making this a breath of fresh air when you finally get to try it. As well as tasting great, it is also low-calorie, has a lovely creamy consistency, and is compatible with many different diets. Want a great tasting vegan-friendly feta? Try Violife’s Greek White Block, seriously, you won’t regret it.
